Adieu Hyderabad

Today is my last day with Mentor Graphics and also last in Hyderabad.Over the last two years I have grown fond of this city, except ofcourse the traffic. You can get killed walking on the side-walk because it is allowed here to drive on the foot-paths if the roads are full. Maybe that's there in other cities too!

I have always asked the people here what Andhra means. My Googling tells me that it could be one of two things: land of deccan (plateau probably) or the land of warriors.Whatever it is, to me it is going to be the land of mangoes. In 1992 when my dad was posted in Rajahmundry we used to buy mangoes at 20 a dozen, and the dozen used to be 13 always. Each mango was of the size of a (water)melon. So one thing that I have juicily relished here is mangoes. The price may not be the same but the mangoes are.

The police here have also been cordial, unlike Pune-Polis. The Pune guys probably have the Mumbai effect rub on them. But here the police have rather been cool. Never did they catch me for driving an out-station vehicle without an NOC.

Right now I am somewhat caught between nostalgia and the pressure to wind up things. So this has let me totally kanfoosed once again.

Rajdhaani takes me to a new dawn tomorrow, to new folks, to old friends, to people who bring a twinkle in my eye, And where good old boys drink whiskey and rye.

Bye bye miss American pie.
